*** Please sign a card today in remembrance of Veterans Day *** The VFW will deliver these heartfelt cards to veterans of all generations, including those who served in Afghanistan during America's longest war. These men and women need to know we are grateful for their service as this conflict comes to a close. Signing a card may seem like a small thing when you think about all the ways courageous men and women have sacrificed for us. But it means everything to a veteran in the hospital to hear from you.

Congress is voting now on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2022. Amendments have been added to the NDAA for H.R. 1115 / S. 535, the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Location Act, and H.R. 1282 / S. 344, the Major Richard Star Act. Post-9/11 veterans deserve to be honored with a GWOT memorial on the National Mall and Purple Heart recipients deserve to receive all the benefits they earned. Now is the time to move these two important pieces of legislation forward. Contact your members of Congress TODAY and demand they pass this crucial legislation.
The VFW is proud to celebrate our nation’s service members and veterans of Hispanic heritage during National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 - Oct. 15. More than 230,000 Hispanic and Latino people serve in the armed forces. Since the Revolutionary War, Hispanic Americans and Latin American immigrants have served in large numbers in every conflict up to present day. Among them, 61 were awarded the Medal of Honor. The VFW salutes all service members, veterans, comrades, and their families of Hispanic heritage for their indelible contributions to our freedom and our way of life.
For veterans diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and looking for alternative ways to treat it, the first FDA-regulated study on the benefits of smoked cannabis yielded favorable results this year. In a placebo-controlled, double-blind study published on March 17 in PLOS ONE, the peer-reviewed journal specified levels of improvement among participants using smoked cannabis blends with a 9 percent THC concentration.
September is Suicide Prevention Month: On average, twenty veterans die by suicide each day. To spotlight suicide prevention in September, VA is providing guidance for veterans who need support or for anyone to provide support to a veteran. VA’s Reach Out campaign outlines five things we all can do now: reach out, hear veteran stories, be prepared, find resources, and spread the word. For any veteran in crisis, you are not alone. The Veteran Crisis Line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by phone (1.800.273.8255, press 1), text (838255), or online chat by visiting VeteransCrisisLine.net.

Matthew M. “Fritz” Mihelcic, of Sparta, Illinois, was elected today as the new national commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, a congressionally-chartered veterans service organization comprised of 1.5 million eligible veterans and military service members from all six branches of the armed forces. Mihelcic’s election as the VFW’s 113th Commander-in-Chief occurred at the conclusion of the organization’s 122nd national convention in Kansas City, Missouri. The gathering was a much-welcomed event following a year without a national convention due to the pandemic restrictions. During his acceptance speech, Mihelcic commended the remarkable community service of VFW members during the COVID crisis.

SSA will resume mailing the forms at a later date when conditions have changed. On February 4, 2021 Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA) introduced H.R. 845, the VA Billing Accountability Act. The bill would authorize the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to waive veterans’ co-payment requirements for medications, hospital, outpatient or nursing care when the VA has committed a billing error that delayed co-payment notification to the veteran for more than 180 days (18 months for a non-VA facility) after the date on which the veteran received the care.
The FY 2021 NDAA includes provisions to add three new diseases—bladder cancer, hypothyroidism and Parkinsonism to the Agent Orange presumptive disease list. We urge veterans to file a claim as soon as possible if they have one of the three newly added diseases. Congress is voting now on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2022. There are two critical amendments that NEED to stay! GWOT Memorial Location Act With the recent end to the conflict in Afghanistan and the 20th commemoration of the attacks on 9/11, NOW is the time to formally honor the more than 2.7 million men and women who served in the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT). Washington bureaucrats are prohibiting a GWOT Memorial on the National Mall. Major Richard Star Act Scores of disabled combat veterans are being DENIED full access to their hard-earned benefits. Over 48,000 medically retired veterans, most of whom are Purple Heart recipients, are forbidden from receiving full retirement pay, a benefit for which they sacrificed their health and military careers. Congress has failed to acknowledge this inequity and needs to fix this injustice now. The VFW demands that Congress pass both the GWOT Memorial Location Act and the Major Richard Star Act as amendments to the NDAA for 2022.

VFW POST 12074 Has adopted Scout Troop 731. This adoption will assist in forging a close-knit cooperation between our organizations. Some of the VFW earliest ties to the community involve youth groups and perhaps none are stronger or more lasting than the relationship between the VFW and America's scouting organizations. In fact, our partnership with the Boy Scouts of America dates back to 1915 when VFW Post 2100 helped to establish Troop 1 in Everett, Washington.
IN COMMUNITIES ALL OVER THE WORLD, IN EVERY WAY IMAGINABLE, VETERANS ARE STILL SERVING. All Members are encouraged to become involved with our Post's Community Outreach, Ceremonies and Events. Families are always welcomed to become involved.

Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it is service while currently on Active Duty or any Veteran who has deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, The Gulf War, Vietnam, Korea, the war on terrorism or peace-keeping expeditionary campaigns or one of the many Operations where hazardous duty pay, or a campaign medal was awarded.
